Dental Care During Cancer Treatment

A cancer diagnosis changes everything. Dr. Amin has personal experience supporting her husband through cancer care, and that perspective shapes how we support our patients. Our role is to make dental care one less thing to worry about during a difficult season, with calm, attentive, individualized care through every phase of your treatment.

Why oral health matters during treatment

During cancer treatment, oral health becomes an important part of protecting your comfort, nutrition, and overall well-being. Thoughtful dental care can reduce the risk of infection, minimize oral pain, support nutrition and hydration, improve tolerance of cancer therapy, and protect long-term oral and dental health. We created this program because we wished something like it had existed when our family needed it most.

Before treatment begins

A complete dental evaluation before therapy starts addresses potential issues before they become complications. This typically includes a comprehensive clinical examination, periodontal (gum and bone) assessment, digital impressions for fluoride trays when appropriate, oral hygiene and daily care planning, nutrition guidance related to oral health, and a review of expected oral side effects based on your treatment plan.

During treatment

Your care plan adapts to your energy, medical status, and the phase of treatment you are in. Some days will feel manageable, and some will not. There is no expectation of perfection, only consistency within what is manageable for you.

How we support you

Three pillars guide every visit: gentle clinical care, vigilant monitoring, and adaptive support that meets you where you are.

Gentle, adaptive professional care

Extra-gentle professional cleanings designed for oncology patients, with equipment and techniques chosen to minimize irritation. Methods and appointment timing adjust based on your blood counts, medical guidance, and how you are feeling on the day of care.

What we monitor

We watch for changes in gum health and inflammation, signs of infection or delayed healing, dry mouth and salivary gland function, oral sores or tissue sensitivity, shifts in cavity risk due to dry mouth, fungal or bacterial infections, jaw stiffness or reduced opening when relevant, and nutrition-related oral changes. Catching these early helps prevent more significant complications.

Ongoing support and symptom management

If you experience discomfort, we adjust your care plan with prescription or protective oral products, dry mouth strategies, targeted pain relief, and nutrition guidance. We coordinate with your oncology team so dental care stays aligned with your overall treatment.
